cannabis light too strong for macroalgae?

I have an old light that is only red and blue spectrum. It's an LED light advertised as 1000w equivalent, but measuring from the wall it's 200w. I'm planning to hang it 12" above the sump. Will the intensity be too strong for Sea Lettuce (Ulva) and Red Ogo (Gracilaria Parvispora)? There are no intensity adjustments, it's either on or off.

I'll bet you are fine 12 inches above the water. Both of those algae won't require a ton of light. Those lights will likely fall off quickly once they hit the water assuming they were designed to cover a plant in air.

Honestly it depends if they’re designed for penetration or canopy growth. Generally the ones with cobs penetrate a lot more than the quantum boards.

edit: 12 inches is probably a good start though. I have a bunch of different types. with one of my cob lights, even at 30” I was bleaching some plants haha.

I've been using my old grow light for the past month as an experiment, its kept gsp and pally's alive so far.

Those lights also work pretty good for culturing phyto.
