I use a 17 liter Superfish cannister filter for enhanced biofiltration. Siporax an inch deep in three trays and the top tray two flat bags of purigen fed from an in sump pump. 2800 liters per hour flow fed from the clean return compartment of the sump.

Here is the question. Would it increase the filter's effectiveness to place a small intake tube with air venturi on the feed pump or would that just make air bubbles? Of course it will make air bubbles but will those air bubbles result in better water quality at the filter outlet? I can place the return from the cannister where the bubbles disappear before the main return pump.

Thanks,
Mark

The air might decrease the effectiveness of the spiromax media. One of the main benefits is its increased surface area for bacteria, true nitrifying bacteria requires areas of no oxygen.
How much of this actually occurs in a canister filter is debatable, but i do not see any benefit to adding air to one.

Only reason i might do this would be if you had low pH and no skimmer and needed somewhere to add an airline for outdoor air.

I add air to intake on one of my pumps, it slowed water discharge from pump. May happen to your filtration, may be

Hey, thanks. It sounds like a folly idea then. I'll just keep it as is. I must say it's working fine with getting all Marked up.

Ah, you reminded me. Last time I was near Brussels one of my favorite stores had the CO2 absorbing cartridges for the skimmer intake. I wanted to see if that might push up PH. I have never, ever had 8.3 to 8.4 PH which is why I try and keep KH 12 to 14. 7.8 to 8.0 is where my last aquarium was for 7 years. This photo is that tank.
