How do I stop this from happening? I have moved it up, moved it down, changed the flow, and every other conceivable thing I can thing of. I have never had this much trouble with a skimmer. It is an Octo SRP-200-INT

Appreciate any insight.

Thanks!

Mark

You haven’t used any chemicals recently have you?

No chemicals or any additives except ALK, which I have always dosed. It seems to overflow like this no matter where I put it.

Looks like it’s working well. Keep cleaning the cup, and it’ll slow down when your water is protein limited.

Facing same issue. Raise up to max height (ie 3”) and pull the skimmate out. Once you collect enough to stop overflow. Slowly lower one step at a time. Have to watch it every now and then, if overflow into sump again the process resets.

Tank was started in March 2021 and Skinner was added then.

Looks like you’ve got a fuge, scrubber or something. Algae can produce a lot of organic compounds, in a short period.

No Algae scrubber, just egg crate to help keep the macro out of the overflow

I set up my tank Jan 1 and installed reef octo in march. Mine did the same thing and 3 months later its running perfect. Not sure how long it should take but that's my experience. There is light at the end of the tunnel ànd it is a great skimmer. Good luck

If the cup has a drain, run it to a bucket (make sure to top off with new water*). IME, when the skimmer starts doing that, you can usually get it under control by actually removing everything it's trying to pull out. When I do this, it usually just overflows (unto a bucket) for a few hours, maybe a day and then goes back to normal.

*Skimmate is saltwater right? I put marks on my cup so every time I empty it, I can add about the same amount of saltwater back in.
