so im thinking about getting a camera since this hobby isnt complete without one :)

was looking at the canon rebel xti anyone has one or heard any good or bad reviews about one? please let me know

by the way i dont know much about cameras this will be my first high end camera i guess you can say

Great Camera and will probably do all you need. That being said you need to pass on the stock lens and pay for a good lens for what your going to specifically need it for. Like for tank Macro or any macro I suggest the Canon 100mm. The problem is your lens will more than likely cost more than your camera body. It's all in the glass!

We have a Nikon D60 with a 15-55mm VR lens (it came with the body). We were able to take it out of the box and get great shots just by using the Macro setting. I've got no experience with Canon but have heard that Nikon is more user friendly.

Yeah i was thinking about getting a 100mm lens but that will have to wait a little longer... its like buying 2 cameras :/

I see something about SLR what does that mean and what does it stand for?

Can you post some pics up that you have taken with it? :)

your best option is to go into a brick and mortar store and play with the different camera bodies. see which one fits you better as far as the controls/body size/weight/menus ect. both canon and nikon have great bodies/lens. i like canon because there consumer products are above nikons at this time. nikons pro gear is above canons though. but who has 5k to spend on a body? the xt is good, the xsi is better. a XXD body even more so. i use a 40D cause it handles noise (even at 3200) awesome. especially in aquarium situations were shutter speeds drop to below 1/100 often.

I shoot with Xti .. a noobie camera but so far I like it ..

i have an XTi and i love it. the stock lens is not the best, but it will do to get you started. and if you want a cheap macro, get extender tubes. a full set will run you about $200 and it will turn just about any lens into a macro. not as sharp as the 100mm macro, but for $200, great deal. i will post up some pics on here tonight if you want to see them.

single lens reflex vs a point and shoot that allows you to use the cameras screen as a viewfinder.

Nikon and Canon are like Chevy and Ford... Both have fans, but both win races. Pick the one that feels best in your hand, AND the one that you can navigate around in easiest. There is no "right answer" to the question, especially at the consumer level.

All that being said, the Canon 100mm Macro is VERY nice, and hard to beat by ANY brand lens.

yes please

all shot's were taken in camera, no photoshopping to alter color or image. this camera gives you many options as do many other nice dslr's. i am quite new to shooting in manual mode where you set all the functions up for each shot. it's amazing the quality of photo you can produce when you get out of the AUTO function.

I like the XTI! I have a Canon Rebel XTi with a Canon 100mm Macro Lens. I am not the best photographer but thats what all of my photos are taken with.
