I'm trying to take good actinic shots bit everything looks pink and terrible? I tried to change the WB but I don't think it worked.....any help? Tia!

When you say you tried to change the WB did you do a custom WB? Sounds like you're on the right track since your camera is cancelling out the blues.

Ya...I took a pic then pressed custom white balance but the pics still look terrible

You set the WB on something an off color(If I recall correctly, something green) set WB off white PVC or sand, gray card, or even a clump of zoas

That usually doesn't work well, as mentioned above take a photo of pvc under your actinics, make sure to fill the frame, use manual focus if you're having a difficult time getting auto focus to work. Using only the center AF point may help as that point is usually the most accurate.

This is what I do and it works quite well. I have a t2i for reference. Set the lights on your tank to be slighter more blue than normal. Take a white piece of paper and place it next to the tank so the light is shining on it. Set your camera to Auto white balance. Take a picture of the paper. Next go into the menu screen and select custom white balance. Select the last photo you just took. Then exit out of the menu and select the WB button on the back and scroll over to the custom white balance setting.

It will now be using the bluish setting you just took. Another step people often don't do but I recommend is changing your camera from Raw to Raw + JPEG. You'll usually like the JPEG more. This is because the raw photo will be capturing the photo exactly as taken to allow you to process the photo on your computer. The JPEG will use the custom white balance you set when it captures the photo.

Set your lights back to your normal settings or maybe even more white. Take the pictures. They should look much more normal.
