It is my understanding that Canon makes their own sensors, or has them made to their specs. Don't know about Nikon. Developing their own sensors, to my knowledge, is what gave Canon that early lead in digital camera technology. They took a chance and it paid off.

I have used several Cannon as well as Nikon. Nikon's features are much easier to use and understand and very repetative.

Nikon for me :D

Good Luck in your searches!

oops! You guys are right about Canon's sensor. Thanks for the correction.

As for Nikon, their sensors are from Sony for sure. At the trade show where Sony showed the A900, Nikon was asked why the full-frame sensor from the A900 wasn't included in the D700 or in a future D3 successor.

Canon does make binoculars.

Canon makes a LOT of things besides camera's, but I am sure everyone knew that. I read at one point that Canon's R&D department is larger then Nikon Corp. as a whole. (Not that size matters ;) )

Yeah, that was a response to the following quote.
... I have yet to see a pair of canon binoculars or a canon riflescope...
Poseidon, it's funny to see how that fact is spun into both a pro and con for Canon. Some people say it's good because it means the company can stay on the cutting edge due to increased resources, and others claim it makes Canon slower to catch up to Nikon - the smaller, agile company. There's no end to spin. :)
