My plan for the tank is to wrap the stand with some pine and cover up the powder coated stand it’s on. I was curious if I need to get treated wood, or will regular wood be suitable if I just applied some type of finish on it to help repel water? Any advice would be appreciated!

I didn't use treated lumber for my stand and it hasn't been an issue. I haven't made a canopy yet but I won't be using treated wood for it either.

For my stand I didn't even coat it with anything to make it more water resistant, it's just bare wood. I probably would put some coating on the inside of the canopy though.

A good couple coats of something (either clear like polyurethane) or paint (I like white on the inside, whatever color the boss lady wants on the outside!) will help protect the wood. Plan on spills.
