I’m overhauling a stand and canopy for a build I’m doing, the previous owner ran Metal Halide and 4 t-5’s in the canopy and had 4 120 mm fans.

Well the fans and cage were nasty so I removed them as I was sanding and staining it.

Well I’m going to be using the 4 t-5’s and also less in the canopy

Do I need fans for the canopy since the back is open and there is the holes where the fans were?

The tank will be in the lower living room where it stays cool but the back door is right above it so there will be warm air coming in at times

If I do add fans would 2 be good?

There is holes for 4 but I will cover up the ones I’m not using , if I don’t need fans I would cover up all the holes

You probably should have 2 blowing in and 2 blowing out, it will rotate the airflow and not be baking your ballasts, the lights run cooler, but the ballasts on florescents get pretty dang warm.
Same idea when growing reefs and reefers
