I'm going to build a canopy and three DIY led fixtures to go over my 210 gal. The problem is I can't hang it from the ceiling because I'm renting and land lord is pretty strict about putting holes in the walls let alone ceiling. I would like to do a temporary mount set up that can be removed later when we buy a house and move, then hang it from the ceiling. Any ideas on how to mount it? I'm using 1x12 pine boards for the sides and haven't decided what thickness plywood for the mounting surface for the LEDs, thinking g 1/2"

If you will check out my tank threads, you can see what I did for my frag tank and my shroom tank. I just took PVC pipe and made a stand. You can brace it however you want. In my case, I'm coming of the stand itself so I didnt really need to brace I have a T on the bottom and made legs coming straight out the front and back for stability. I used 1" on the farg tank and it is holding a Acrylic Canopy with a Metal Hallide fixture and DIY LED frame. Im gonna say it weighs somewhere around 40 lbs or so? I just screwed some eye hooks all the way through the top to hang the fixture. Hope that gives you some ideas.

Here is an example.

This is my canopy. My plan for now is using 2x2 post in each corner and having it sit ontop of the tank.

I had an existing canopy, that I had to use to mount my LED's in the lid. Here's what I did:

The fixtures had suspension tabs mounted on top that I removed and replaced with 1/4-20 bolts, and used 1/4" fender washers to help distribute the wieght. I also had to add/rearrange the bracing.

In my canopy had a buddy make a bracket out of aluminum angle iron and then I drilled holes and attached mounting wire and attached the bracket at the desired height

The stand idea is definitely the easiest. I built L shaped brackets that attached to the stand for support and counter weight. Worked great!
