Man am I frustrated! A few months ago I bought a Mystery Wrasse. I put it in my DT and the 6line went to town on it. Of course I couldnt get the 6line out so I had to grab the mystery. So for the past couple of months this beautiful mystery has been in my 14g biocube. I paid more for the fish than I did the entire tank.:squigglemouth: For the past 4 days I have had a 2-liter trap at the bottom of my tank and while I did get out a few other fish I wanted the 6line knows exactly what is going on. He goes in just the trap about 1 inch but wont cross the lid barrier. I am almost ready to start taking things apart to get him. As soon as he sees a net he will go hide in the rocks for hour or two.

ohhhh have i got a deal for you Zach ,,,,,,you can take all of that eye candy of yours out of your tank and put it in mine for say 3 years !!!! then it would be eaiser to get him ,,,simple stuff bro ,,, less is more !!!

Try a small water bottle (Aquafina or your favorite brand), remove the label, connect a fish line near the top. Make the fish line long enough so you can sit a distance from the tank. Put some food in the bottle and wait for the fish to swim in. When it enters, pull on the string to stand the bottle up. The fish will try to exit the way it came in and run into a bottle wall. In other words, no delay for the trap door to drop. Should be able to get it that way. The only other way I know is to dismantle the reef, which no one wants to do.
Good luck,
Gary

good luck on catching him. i have taken apart my tank before to get a fish. yes a pain but worth it.

That is basically what I have except with a 2-liter bottle. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and start taking things apart which I really dont want to do. I guess its good that my aquascaping is all independently done with acrylic rods. Maybe Ill take out the pj cardinals while Im at it. Man I dont want to do this:too_sad:

can you take apart only half the tank. leaving an open section where you can insert a piece of acrylic the size of the tank. ... get him trapped on one side and then net him. ive done it this way before too.

Re: Wrasse Hunting

:snicker:Zach I just got both of my wrasses out I will take the mystry for you and invite you over! Just kidding I stiil have not caught the x-mas:cry:

UPDATE, im wet, tired, dripping sweat and my tank is a mess!!! I basically took everything apart, caught the sixline, two pj cardinals and a watchman goby. Lets just say I will be more selective with my fish in the future. Now off to home depot to get some aquamend to repair the damage to my aquascaping.

To catch my purple tang, took me 30 minutes to drain a bunch of water and take out a few key pieces of lr and bunch of corals and easily scoop the fish using 2 nets. It was so easy I was laughing. Took me over 2-3 hours to get everything back in, and it's still not right.

Congrats on the sixline capture. Mine went psycho and had to be removed. Went straight in the 2 liter bottle for me though.

when I wanted to catch my six line I just waited till 2 in the morning after the lights have been out for a while and than just turn them all on. I the sudden light kinda shocks the 6 line and he seemed to swim at the bottom of my tank like he was drunk or something and than I just netted him. But I guess this tip is a little to late.
