Can't Drill, now what?

Shoot, I don't have 6" behind my tank so that's out. My pump puts out the water and is quiet but those are good prices and if my pump does go out I'll be sure to remember them.

and for my tank its a 55gal i am using a 3/4 drain and 3/4 return with a 1250gph and its flowing 800gph by a meter but i also have two maxi jet power heads and i am thinkin about installing a closed loop sytem to amp up some flow but a peice of advise is that in your sump flow is not a issue it does not need to be fast!!! and i will argue my point for days if thats where your equitment is skimmer refugium ect water needs to be moving but not at crazy rates because your filtration needs time to do its job so as long as your sump is running fine and doing its job i wouldnt worry about its flow just get some better powerheads now for exzmple on my tank i had problems with my sump overfilling i fixed this by turning my gate valve on my pump down some and now i am having some issues with my overflow not being as quiet now on my tank i have a bulkhead drilled into the side and a custom in tank box built to keep fish out and as a fail safe if you cant drill your tank and are using a hang on suction box you are going to have problems as i did so either go big with the box or turn your pump down

Watty89 - Are you directing this to me? I know what my tank needs for turn over rate and it's between 5 and 7 times per hour. My pump is capable of pumping 950 gph at 4 feet so I figure I am able to get 900 to 925 gph. My problem is I'm not getting enough overflow so I have to do something to get more water flowing into the sump. I am unable to drill the tank as it appears that all the glass is tempered so I have to some sort of overflow system that is up and over the edge of the tank. I am playing around with a system I saw on another forum and if it works, I'll make a second one and it should give me the flow rate I need. Currently I have a CPR-90 overflow box that I was advised to buy telling me it would be enough. It isn't. So I'm going up and over with a overflow tubing system that if it works even a little better than the CRP I'll add another and if that is close to what I want, I'll be happy and maybe rebuild this system out of larger pipe. It's sort of an experiment for now.

Well, I was going to drill the back of my DT this summer but after doing all the tests I could find, I find out that all the glass is tempered so drilling is out. Now I need to find another way to install and use larger overflow plumbing to feed the sump. I have an undersize CPR overflow box and would like to get away from that all together. The flow just isn't enough. Anyone out there have some super ideas for me? My pump will do 900 gph for return. Thanks in advance.

Late to the thread but I would do a pvc overflow.

I also use a powerhead or the sump pump intake to suck out air to prevent siphon break.

well greg i wasnt trying to treat you like a uou didnt know anything it was just that the disscussion had gone to other things and topics with flow and all but ideally that would work but adding another one i would think that upgrading the size of siphon tube would work or possibly just cutting down on pump output if your system can stand to be slowed down would be my suggestion bc i personally dont like siphon overflow but i understand your problem with cant drilling what kinda box did you buy post a pic

Sorry. I may have come back wrong too. I've been up all night with my ill wife and not thinking too clearly. My sump right now is really too slow. I've had to cut back on the pump in order to mainting water in the sump because the feed isn't enough. I should be able to run this pump wide open instead of having it cut back to half or less.

yea mine runs about a 1/4 off just to really keepin air from being sucked but i would def. think of getting a bigger drain for sure if your having a problem with keeping the sump full here is some useful info i found about flow i am a fireman and deal with water flow equations alot so some of that stuff is pretty easy for me but this link might help you out some

sorry my link isnt working right but just seach aquarium science- water flow managment and the video was posted by oregan sea grant should be first or second video
