Not sure where to get Chaeto from for my new refuge here..I noticed in the fish market they sell an edible seaweed called Guto per kilo..After a google search,I think its scientific name is Eucheuma spinosum.
Any idea if this stuff will export nutrients as well as Chaeto does?

Is the algae in the market collected from tropical waters? If it’s cold it’s best to stay away, if from warm waters then I’d used it.

Any algae will export nutrients. It seems Chaeto is very popular because it does not spread throughout the display tank whereas faster growing seaweed with better nitrate uptake can find its w@y into the display tank. I have snails in the display tank and use Ulva which has less fussy growing conditions.

Eucheuma spinosum (which is now accepted as Eucheuma denticulatum), does occasionally make its way into the trade. From what I have read, it prefers lower temperatures, grows slowly, and is an incredibly difficult species to care for, so would probably not be ideal, even for most dedicated macroalgae tanks.

If you are looking for refugium algae, eBay has you covered (Chaetomorpha, Ulva, Gracilaria, Caulerpa, etc.).

This is my challenge here..Best online stores here are Lazada and shoppee..No chaeto listed that I can find but perhaps Im just searching wrong terms. I also put in some fine hair type algae that I found in the sea at high tide..I will keep a close eye the algae in op in case it begins to die..Thanks.

Sea lettuce refers to the mat-like species of the genus Ulva. The stringy species are called gutweed and were once classified as Enteromorpha. Both work wonderfully in refugiums and can be harvested as a nutritious snack for herbivores (humans can eat this too).

So I have learned never to use algae in the picture on left ever again!
It degrades slowly turning white in about 8 days and turns to dust. Nightmare. Lol

Are you sure that is it? I am pretty sure op is referring to Caulerpa lentillifera when they mentioned guto

Good point! While OP referred to Guto as Eucheuma spinosum in the original post, no picture of the fish-market algae was linked, so it may actually be some other algae.
From my experience, Caulerpa lentillifera from Indo-Pacific Sea Farms grows quickly and as not too difficult to maintain, making it a good refugium algae. Like all Caulerpa, care should be taken not to let its environment become too crowded or let water quality deteriorate, lest the algae should go sexual.
