You may be right to try and reduce the total amount of food going in (if you're overfeeding), but try to keep feeding your fish every day, but make the feedings smaller.
You can also try letting the front glass "fuzzy out" for a week or two and see if that'll suck up enough of the phosphates to make a difference. Easy to clean at the end, and everyone in the tank (including the skimmer) usually loves to eat the thick algae that come off when you finally do clean it.
