Can't get Instant Ocean online?

And another thing, doesn't petco/smart carry io? I thought I saw it there when I was searching for Red Sea salt.

From what I heard lfs got ticked when IO was starting to be sold online as well as in the Lfs but at a cheaper price online. Lfs' s got ticked and stopped buying/selling IO and switched to other brands. This really hurt IO'S sales. So they are going back to only selling to Los. Trying to win their business back.

I don't know why you are bashing Petco ? I have purchased many healthy coral and sw fish from Petco. Maybe the stores you are dealing with need improvement ? You should e-mail Petco customer service with your concerns and your issues may and can be resolved ? I do belive Dr. Foster & Smith are affiliated with Petco ? You should not bash the complete chain for a couple of poorly operated stores that you frequent !

Lol petco... you must be new

BRS just did not compete with Dr Foster & Smiths or Petsolutions pricing.
I tried to get them to price match the IO salts way back and they just would not do it.

If IO or RC is the mix that you desire then, they are still the same and just price check them between DF&S and Petsolutions.

Just because BRS does not carry those mixes anymore does not make them bad products,

BRS does not carry the Tropic Marin salts and they are some of the highest grade / purity salt mixes in the world.

Sooo,, I bought my IO from BRS,,, not being able to get it from them any longer,,, I didn't want to,, but I bought RC in my last order,,, What can I do to off set the 13 dkh that I will get with RC that was posted above,,, mix the RC with another salt to lower this 13 dkh?
Add muriatic acid to the water after adding the salt. I add 14ml(+/-) to a 50 gallon batch of IO to bring the alk down to 7.5ish.
And an appreciated effect of adding the muriatic acid, the inside of my mixing container is spotless. No residue whatsoever.

support your local dealers! if we don't they will go away and we will be left with mass marketers! whats wrong with that? Go into a PETCO and look at the inhumane conditions those saltwater fish are in-- most will die in a week. Its sickening. Choose a guy who has been a fish geek all his life and wants nothing more than to sell hand picked healthy sea life. I'm not a dealer or in the industry in any way ( except for being a published writer). heres a plug-- I have a choice of a number of stores -- I use Sea Level in Northern New Jersey to get my salt at mail order prices and then have the luxury of looking at and buying from some of the best maintained aquariums in New Jersey. Their instant ocean and crystals are in the $35-40 range ( a lost leader for the store I'm sure)
The closest LFS to me is over 2.5 hours away so that is not a good reason to not have access online.

Buy it from Dr. Foster & Smith. It's the cheapest I've found online and they often have coupons. In fact they're running coupon 15% of right now, 15AUGUST. BRS and Marine Depot always sold it for $10 to $15 more than DFS anyway.

Dr. Foster also raised the price, so the coupon barely gets you back to their normal non-sale price in the past. It's not just them...........the price is higher across the net.

From my perspective it looks like they want to raise cost across the board and control it easier. I know in my area one big Marine LFS buys all the salt and he is the distributor to all the other marine stores.

Less outlets makes sense for them and they can also reduce transportation costs drastically on their end. Amazon may still carry it due to their shear size and distribution they can offer.

I've never ordered IO online, it's normally $35-40 at 2 of the LFS near me.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I haven't ordered salt in a while. I guess the best you can do is wait for their random 25% off sales. They just had one of those a few weeks ago...

if their price goes up to high they may lose some sales as many people buy it because of price.

Their IO price has a huge gap between other salts, so I doubt it will affect sales...........it looks like about $3-4 raise for a 200g box. I haven't bought some locally(LFS) in a few months, but usually they sell it for 40 all the time and less during sales. If they start charging more than I'll know this is a price raise across all channels.

I hate Spectrum Brands. They're a dictatorship distributor that sells crappy products for ridiculous MSRP prices.

If they want to price gauge their crap salt, the Red Sea Blue Bucket is around the same price with correct parameters.

I purchased IO from amazon 6 months ago for 39.99 shipped, Tried to reorder, price has ranged from 47 - 52 on amazon recently.
IO is up in price across the board. Must be coming from supplier.

This and one other person are the ONLY ones with a clue thus far.

Instant ocean is no longer carried by BRS or Marine Depot, is there something I missed? Is it no longer produced? I see it on Dr Foster and Smith and Amazon. I'd hate to have to change salt mix now that my tank is finally settling in...

I just purchased a 50 pound box from BRS last week.

With their (BRS) Black Friday deals, you can buy Red Sea Coral Pro for almost the same price as IO on Amazon. Wow! Granted the IO is rated for more gallons by the bulk box. But Wow!
