Can't get rid of this algae, need suggestions...

the reason I can recommend that to fix this tank here is the speed of fix (one day) and the sustained outcome + shiny reef he is reporting. Anyway it’s sliced, rip cleaning will fix this tank above, Jons was packed with dinner plate size coral, still ok and hungry and eating well.

its true internal dosing of params can work over time, very handy for large inaccessible systems like 200 gallon setups

but this tank above could draw off the working fifty gallons in a brute, effect a rip clean like Jons, reassemble cloudless sand with no fuel for the next succession of invaders, and skip cycle reassemble it all using the same water. A rip cleaned reef is the most stable due to no organic reserves, you can feed them exceptionally as all the spaces are no longer packed with detritus, they’re open to taking it on. The difference in Jons tanks and others is he’s working preemptively.

I'll read this post. However, not sure If i want to completely rip my set up and start over. My my brute trash can is only 10Gal, I live in a condo and do not have fish room, so cant haul 55 gallons around :)

Just as an update.

I found an UV sterilizer that should fit under my tank. It is only 8 Watt, but says it should be good for tanks up to 70 gal. Will give call to BRS tomorrow to see if I need to get anything else. Once I set it up, I will do another go at siphoning and cleaning rocks, then will do 3 day blackout along with running UV.

Also thinking to buy pods. I used to have a lot of them, but now do not see any, wondering if they didnt make through all the chemicals I was using.

What size tank do you have? Get a cheap microscope and post some pics of the dinos, see what strain you are dealing with. You can beat this.... UV UV UV… hang it in the DT looks crappy ...but works. I got a cheap 55watt Jebao UV Clarifier Sterilizer for Aquarium Fish Pond Fountain you need around 1 watt per 3 gals of tank water.

My tank is 55Gal and 11Gal sump, but should be less due to displacement. I am thinking to get this UV, it is only 15Watt, but per website it is rated up to 75Gal.

That reads like it should work..up to 75gal for sterilization...I would temporarily run it in the DT till you clear up the dinos.
I'm running 24/7, only for ease of use.. The dinos enter the water column after the lights go out.....so UV is only effective on dinos when in the water column. Using a turkey baster will help get the dinos off the rockwork, it will help speed the process.
You should see results in 24 to 48 hrs.. If not you will need to get a microscope,,,,,, so the algae gurus can identify what you are dealing with.. Good luck and keep us posted.. It helps others who run into the same issues..

Cheers!

I would definitely recommend the snails before spending tons on uv run some gfo and snails

Although I believe in natural cures.. If dinos …... its because P04 and P03 dropped .. you do not want to run GFO.. and snails will not eat dinos..Fighting dinos you need to bring up your P04 and P03.... He can get a cheaper UV if he's on a budget .. UV, copepods, phytoplankton and upping your nutrients will work on dinos... again, if he is dealing with dinos.. Only way to know for sure is using a microscope to get a good pic..
