Can't keep certain chalice's?

I was curious why I can't seem to keep certain chalice's. Anyone else have this problem.

I have a clean mostly SPS tank and the sps are thriving. 6 T5's over the tank also to mention that.

My aussie acans lately have been showing signs of not being to happy either.

When I get a new chalice within a week the skeleton is showing thru the skin and its starts to melt away??

My PH is 8.2
DKH is 7
Calcium is 400
Mag 1200

Zero NO3 and PO4.....

I do have a Vortech on the tank which is a 75 but I have that set to pulse wave mode so it's not blowing on any of them directly just moving water back and fourth... I will say I have a blue laminosa that is thriving but other than that everything else seems to kick!

Hey Spankey. I have a theory that sometimes tanks are to clean for certain corals. I think some chalices and acans like the water a little dirty. This wouldn't necessarily explain rapid deterioration though it might explain the acans?

Where are you putting them when they first arrive?

I have two vortechs set on low in my 58.

Erin down low. I am reading that mg has a roll to play as well. Mine is low so I am slowly going to bring it back up to 1350. Having low MG also has the tendency to keep your alk and calc out of check. Even with my reactor I can't keep it steady and now know the MG has been playing against that.

I do know for a fact that they like clean water as most of the chalices I got from BigBoy and his tank is stripped plus he runs "4" vortechs blasting his corals in his 120 so there goes the flow theory too! I just can't seem to figure it out. The only missing culprit is the MG.

He has been using Gary's salt so that makes me tend to wonder if my salt was a tad lacking or what could be causing my MG to drop.....

Time to investigate!

I doubt it's your mg unless you never do water changes and don't dose to replenish it
