Can't keep tangs alive!

I tried a orange shoulder in a 125 it's a baby died in 3 days. Got a refund on it. Got a tomini in about a month dead as well. What's the trick to these fishes. Fed nori,mysis and squid everyday.
Parameters are good
Ammonia, nitrites 0
Nitrates 10-15

125 only 2 clowns and a mandarin goby. The new tangs i didn't quarantine as i don't have a extra tank. I just see stress colors and death. This one i seen stress colors for a couple days then he did have 1 mark on the side but the clowns don't do anything to anyone but it looked more like a scratch on a rock. Can't explain it like when u take scales off a fish a white spot like that type. But that only came in today. Not dots no nothing. Thought he had ich couple weeks ago but those spots left the next day.

I'd be thinking along the lines of stress, diet, and/or disease. Parameters seem good, though nitrate could be a bit lower.

Introduce a good quality pellet food, in addition to the nori andfrozen foods.

A tang is a fish that grazes all day so can easily become malnourished if there's not enough food intake.

Is there much aquascaping to lessen stress?

Ultimately, the fish really need to be quarantined to ensure that they are disease free.

I know people with nitrates higher no issues. But obviously every fish and tank is different but. I have about 120 pounds of rock. He's got a bunch of spots he's hid in. I only fed frozen and nori. No pellet. There's more than enough algae for him to graze also. No one's in my house scaring them taping on glass or anything crazy like that neither.

I'd still introduce a good pellet. I know it's not 'natural' food but a good quality one actually packs a punch nutrition wise, and can help fill fish. I find most frozen mysis and brine shrimp are mostly shell.

I do keep going back to quarantining though, it's the most crucial element for new fish to ensure health.

Of course you should only purchase from reputable sources, but that still doesn't replace quarantine.

The best source for fish are trusted businesses that sell pre-quarantined fish, and from other reefers who want to rehome their fish. If you buy your fish from a LFS, ask them about their procedure for incoming fish, and what type of meds they put them on, and the SG at which they're kept. If they won't or can't give you this information, give the seller a hard pass.

IMHO - small tangs are much harder than large tangs. Shipped tangs are harder than tangs picked up at an LFS. If I had to guess - I would think (assuming it wasn't shipping trauma) - that sight unseen - your clowns or something else are damaging your fish - OR - they are in extremely poor condition when you receive them - meaning their mortality in any case is going to be high.

What does your scape look like does it provide enough cover for these high strung fish to hide. Or are they stressed all the time and die

There's enough hiding spots he's hid all day and come out to eat. He will eat with no issues. Clowns won't hide they stay out all day. I had them in previous tank and no issues with previous fish going on 2 years with clowns so u know they aren't picking on anyone. The tomini will stress here and there for a couple hours or a day from time to time but will be good for the most part. I don't get it. But they were babies so I'm not sure if that is part of the problem as well. I will be getting bigger fishes next time

You say more then enough algae for him I want to see pictures. Maybe it’s the wrong type of algae

I feed nori with garlic extract everyday he's the only one that eats that. Lights are off but i got chunks of green hair algae growing in different spots. Not sure if he'll eat chaeto but it def goes in the display from fuge. Lights are currently off. But he's always nipping at gha when he's not hiding.

What signs did you see before they died?
And are there any inverts in the tank?
An FTS of the tank will be better, we can only go off of things you say but a photo says 1000 more words than going off of someone’s word.

I second looking for a different source. I don't think the clowns would have killed them in a 125 and your parameters look fine for fish.
