I recently bought an Reef Octopus Elite 150INT skimmer to replace the Skimz SV227 Oval skimmer I have as I was never satisfied with its performance, build quality or how loud the skimmer runs. Not to mention the Skimz skimmer was grossly oversized for my tank.
I was able to run the Skimz skimmer at around 9in of water at full speed which it claims it can inject 1200L/h to 1900L/h of air, but when I switched over the the Reef Octopus with a max rated of 900L/h of air, after about 2 weeks of break in and at 7in of water, I was only able to run the pump at around 40% speed. If I try to run it at 60%, even with the outlet valve wide open, I will fill up my collection cup in about a day. Its producing a good skimmate tho even at 40% speed.
Im not sure if it has to do with my water chemistry or the Reef Octopus is that much better of a skimmer than the point of sale Skimz.
