I have a nuvo lagoon 25 that has been set up for a year now. I have been having issues with cyano that I have been trying to address for a while and it is now to a point that the issue needs more focus as it is getting worse and I can't seem to get it under control. I have never had a testable nutrient problem, I have a hannah checker for phos and it has never been over .03 ppm, my nitrates are also in check. I am running carbon and just recently, two weeks ago, added a half rate of BRS gfo for the first time. I am running filter floss in both media caddies and I have a ns-80 skimmer. I am running a kessil a360w on a 12 hour cycle, this is on a timer without a controller. I have plenty of flow in the tank, I have an mp10 at full blast on reef crest mode, the cyano seems to survive even where there is high flow in the tank.
I have been running my kessil on a fairly white setting because this appeals more to me than a blue setting, I just turned the kessil to as blue as it can get in hopes of this helping with the cyano problem. The kessil is running at maybe 80% for 12 hours a day so there is pretty strong lighting for the tank dimensions. I do a 25% waterchange once a week and rarely skip it. I try to blow off the rocks when I do my water change and siphon out part of the sand bed. I have two clowns and a file fish so the tank is not over stocked. I feed once a day, most days sometimes is skip the feeding. I mainly feed a small chunk of rods food but mix in nutrimar ova ever so often, I do not believe over feeding is an issue.
My thought is that lighting is driving the cyano issue but I could be wrong. Any input would be appreciated!!!
