I’m new to this hobby for having a saltwater reef tank. I currently have a 55 gal. tank with underwater filtration grid & a filter system on top of that for a 75 gal. tank. I also have an LED 2-1/2” aeration ring. I have a 2-1/2” yellow tang, a 2-1/2” blue tang & a pair of orange/white clown fish. They all get along great & stay close like there a family. My ? Is is my tank large enough to have a few more different fish, I like having a variety of color in my tank but don’t want to risk the peaceful life my fish seen to enjoy

You could have more fish than what you have, but the tangs you now have will outgrow your tank and become aggressive as they grow. Choosing compatible marine fish can be challenging.

Good Luck!

You’re going to hear it from the “tang police” for keeping two tangs in a 55, but at their current size, I wouldn’t say they’re a problem.

I believe you could easily keep a few smaller fish. I’d try to find fish that swim in different zone or parts of the water column. Something like a 6-line wrasse will constantly swim in and out of the rock work and fish like hawk fish or blennines will perch on top of rocks. I always love the personality of a bicolor blennie. I’ve heard that 6-line wrasses can be aggressive, but I haven’t noticed that to be a problem in any of my systems.

A few blue/green chromis always add nice color and movement to your tank too.

The fish I wouldn’t recommend are cardinal fish. They’ll group together, but the usually just sit motionless in the same spot of a tank all day and rarely seem to move. For that reason alone, I’ll never keep them.
