This system is just starting to get going, with lots of growth to be done and lot of fish to be added, but its starting to look decent.
This tank is unique because it has no powerheads. It has two return pumps, one internal and one external, running a forward and rear return system. Both returns have SCWD's on them. The external pump is a Mak 4 putting out roughly 1300 gph. The SCWD switches about every 6 seconds on this return, which is the rear return coming out of the overflow boxes. The front return is powered by a Mag 12, also a roughly 1200gph pump, but the SCWD takes about 15 seconds to switch on this return, and the flow is less powerful, making it perfect to aim directly at the corals. Because the SCWDs switch at different rates, the flow is always random, and I have no ugly powerheads. How did I get 2 1" overflows to handle over 2400 gph? With modified Durso drains that have 5/8' ball valves that act as snorkels and allow me to control the air flow, so the system also runs silent. I do get a slight amount of micro bubbles because of the velocity the water travels through the sump, but nothing that is an issue.
The frag tank is a 20g long with a return through a 3/4" bulkhead on each side powered by a mag 7 through a SCWD as well, plumbed through the wall sharing the sump with the display. Lighting is a 150w MH. My juvenile black tang and hippo tang live in there until they grow a little to handle the PBT.
