These guys have been so finicky with me lately! They were doing great in high light at the LFS where I got them from and they want to beat me because I beat them with the high light. I probably should've acclimated them a little better I must admit. Regardless they are well acclimated now and seem to like the low light similar to my Sunny D's.

Anyone else have this experience with Captain Americas?

Mine took a long time to acclimate and get good color. I have them pretty low in my tank.

Definitely thus far. I used to have all of my Z/Ps on the floor where I could keep a garden but quickly realized that it isn't possible for best health and coloration. The Captains definitely don't like a beating like the scarfaces/purple orchids/Utter Chaos.

I have them at around 120 par. I bought 3 and for 4 months no babies but they started to get happy and big and at around 6 months babies started growing everywhere. Now I have like 40 after 11 months.

i had mine mid level under 80w t5 lighting and they were doing great...i dropped them almost to the sandbed and now the color is amazing...def a low light paly in my experience

Looks like a consensus here! Good stuff to know. It seems that the color of these guys isn't so much about vibrancy but more depth and saturation of color.

i just ordered some zoas from a fellow reefer on here & should be here tomorrow. . Do all them generally like the low lighting. i have the following coming...Tubbs Blue, Cpt American, Sunny Ds, Ice & Fire, & Sunflowers

Fire and Ice... sunny ds and tubbs seem to really love the higher lighting... I can't confirm the rest....

i was told to put in lower light and they colored right up for me. probably one of my favorite and the fastest grower. good luck finding the sweet spot
