Captive bred angelfish opinion

Had mine for about a month now and it gets fed twice a day with everyone else, eats anything offered and grazes all day in my display refugium.
I guess we'll see what flavour it is as it grows. ;)

Update? How is it today?

Any updates on these cb regals?
Captive bred regal is dong very well and is almost as big as wild caught yellow belly which hasn’t grown at all since getting him. The CB is showing a yellow belly as well although not ready to declare that it will develop permanently that way. Will post some picks in about a week.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, assuming Bali Aquarich got their broodstock from local waters, that the grey and yellow bellies hybridize around Bali and Sumatra. But yeah, we’ll see how yours ends up. Hope you’ll post some pics soon. How are your CB angels feeding compared to wild ones?

They all are feeding well. The regals I’ve owned have all fed well.

How do you tell when they are younger
Grey bellies have duller colouring and in the first photo if it’s not lighting there is a slight grey tint on the throat.

Supposedly the grey-belly juvies have a slightly more green tail than yellow, but I've never seen a direct comparison. Basically, there's no difference in juveniles.

Having keeping both Blue-chested and Yellow-chested variety from young to adult this is my opinion:
Both variety start out the same and as the fish age and the dark color come in, the Yellow-chest variety stop color developed early. The blue and back pigmentation just stop while the Blue-chest variety the dark color just continue for longer. This result in the Blue-chest has darker coloration over all with thinner yellow bars and thicker blue/white/black bars in blue chest.
Pictures worth 1000 words so pictures below:
Comparison between the adult Blue-chest Regal, looking at the bars in the middle of the fish, proportion wise the yellow area is only 1/2 the size of the adjacent blue/white/black bars (ration of 1:2), while the Yellow-chested variety the ration of the Yellow to the adjacent Blue/white/black bar is about the same width (ratio of 1:1)

IMO, both are beautiful, but they are different fishes.

This has helped me to figure out whether I had a Blue Belly or Yellow Belly and I definitely have a Yellow Belly although not the Red Sea Yellow Belly :)

If I have to guess, I would say yours's the hybrid Regal. My Yellow-chested is from Maldives. It is one of those yearly Maldive baby Regal LA used to offer almost yearly for sale.

@i cant think
It is a year later now, have you decided that you have a blue chest, variance of the yellow chest or a Red Sea yellow chest Regal Angel variety?
Any update picture?

That girl was definitely a yellow chest. Unfortunately I lost her during the tank upgrade along with 4-5 other favourites (including my Magnificent Foxface).
Here was the last photo I believe I got of her.

However, I picked up a male from a tank teardown about a month ago (nearly 2). And he is I believe a Madagascan Regal.

Both regals I’ve had have been natural Misbars which I absolutely love as it’s just a minimal misbar that they have as opposed to the CB Misbars.

From the proportion of they eye to the rest of the head and from the coloration of the false eye spots, i judge the two pictures are of Regal of about the same size. Am I correct?
Your new Regal have a lot more yellow (proportionally wider yellow bands) than your previous one. He should be a nice one.

Yeah, they are of around the same size - it’s why I picked the new one is because my other was about that size.
