I would love to add a cleaner wrasse to my DT. For the most part I think they are very interesting fish and love that they do a job in the system.

But I also like the idea of getting one that is captive bred because I have heard it is difficult to help them transition to being in a tank if they are wild caught. I dont want to watch a fish waste away because I cant provide properly for it.

Does anyone have a line on a captive bred cleaner wrasse? Or is that even a thing at the moment?

They have been bred in captivity, but aren't widely available. Quality Marine had them, but I'm not sure if they still do.

Just because something has been captive bred, does not mean that it's instincts developed over millenia will be that different than wild specimens.

Right! I agree and understand that.
I was just hoping that something that is captive bed and raised to a size that would be viable to sell and ship would have been introduced or exposed to more of a normal food type for a hobbyist. Example- frozen, flake or pellet.
But I suppose it makes sense that whomever is taking the time to breed these fish would prob offer the food that would give the highest rate of survival and growth/health. Which would make sense that it be what they would eat in the wild....

Personally, I have found an increasing number of wild-caught cleaner wrasses to accept food and do well in aquaria with a good number of fish to clean.

This is my observation, most cleaners I have seen do eat regularly. I just got another one that eats everything.
