Captive bred fish: Australia

Long shot but does anyone in Australia know of sources (other than the usual online reef shops) that supply captive bred reef fish?

It seems that in Australia the only captive bred fish intermittently available are:
Orchid dottyback
striped blenny
Mandarin
Bangaii cardinals
Yellow Assessors (yet to confirm this)

Seems to be a gap in the market or a lack of market given the ease which fish can be sourced from the Barrier Reef.

Cairns marine has captive bred fish but don't think they do retail sales. If you are in Melbourne then Williamstown Aquarium has import license and can get any fish if you are ready to pay for it.
I think they have a captive bred yellow assessor in store right now.
Anything QT in Queensland is a good Quarantine service provider if fish disease are your concern.

I wonder what’s so hard to get Captive Bred fish in Australia considering many of the breeders are located almost next door in Indonesia.

What about Clowns? Are they about the only Captive Bred fish you guys can get regularly?

I have no interest in clowns so don't know much about it. But I am sure they are captive bred. As for imports from Indonesia, border control only allows fish imports from a handful countries only. Not sure if Indonesia is on the list
Btw a new wrasse type was identified last month or in Australia. Flame wrasse I think. A pair sold for AUD4k at an lfs.

Not really. I know u r a big fan of genicanthus angels. I bought a baby lamarck for AUD50 that's close to USD 40. Bought my Japanese swallowtail for AUD85. Liveaquaria has them for over $150 I think.

Yes I am. If I had the tank for it I’d also be looking into some Holacanthus and Pomacanthus but that’s all not possible for me now. How have your Genicanthus done for you? Those prices are pretty good, not bad at all.

I know Paul talbot of Majesitc Aquariums has done one video on Genicanthus but that’s the only one he’s ever done.

My favorite Holacanthus is the Passer. My favorite Pomacanthus is the Majestic.

My lamarck didn't make it through the QT. It was very small and didn't eat well.
My swallow tail died due to ich that it ory tomini tang brought to the tank.
This time I am getting a pair from a professional quarantine specialist who will also train them to eat pellets.
