Hi everyone,

Just getting back into the hobby after 10 years...I saw an article that said captive bred ones were available in 2014.

https://reefbuilders.com/2014/08/30/captive-bred-genicanthus-personatus-debuts-macna-2014/

Anyone hear of any becoming available again? Always wanted a pair of these.

Thanks,
Nick

Haven't heard anything for a while but the last price I hear quoted was $25k if I recall correctly. I don't remember anything after the first batch that was raised. One was auctioned off (or maybe raffled off, can't remember which) at MACNA that year.

Edit : Here's the story from 2014 and the press release video (scroll down to the bottom). The video is the stuff of dreams! :D

$25k!? No wonder I never see them... I’ve always thought they were so cool looking, was surprised they weren’t more popular [emoji23] I’ve never actually come across one for sale lol

Now that I think of it. There was a pair that was wild caught that sold for $30,000. I think they were for sale individually for $19,000 each.

Karen Brittian captive breeds them from a pair that Rufus Kimura caught. She is still doing it but Rufus sold his buisness to someone else so I’m not exactly sure how you would go about getting them now as far as who to contact since Karen won’t sell to you directly since she doesn’t ship fish. They will cost you 20k plus at this point and time each unfortunately. there was a time a few years back that you could get them for cheaper but not anymore.

Thanks for the info!

What about captive bred bandits? Didn’t Karen breed those as well?

Nick

I saw a former LFS advertise them recently 20k Canadian and it will travel in passenger area of plane not cargo.
25k and you get to go with them to get it in Hawaii.

If you are serious about wanting one Red @ Coral Reef Shop can probably help you out.

Can they help me get the captive bred bandits?

Thanks

Pm me as I can get you both the bandits and GP.
And yes she bred the the bandits as well. Actually I believe more bandit offspring than Gp. However a batch of Gp are ready to go now. About 1.25-1.5” as I helped a buddy get a pair recently
