Captive bred majestic angel (P.navarchus) pair?

Hi all,

I have recently reserved a captive bred majestic angel and just heard that my LFS are actually picking 2 up which got me thinking. Has anyone got a pair of these or other Pomacanthus species?

They are tiny at present so there is scope for them to pair up and they would be living in a 20g QT for a couple of months to fatten up then going in a 280g reef (96"x28" footprint)

Personally, I don't have experience with this species, but I will BUMP for you to see if you can get an answer.

What other fish are in the dt? What semi-aggressive or aggressive fish do you have already? Or fish with similar body shape?

Says they are a very slow grower.
Another option is after qt using an aquarium divider. Egg crate and suction cups has worked for me in separating fish from one another for periods of time.
(mostly cichlids when i didn’t want fry).

I love Majestic Angels. The other large angel I love is the Regal Angels. Lately I elected to keep Regal instead of Majestic. IMO these are some of the most st beautiful and graceful angels. I think they are hermaphrodites so putting two small one together you most likely will end up with a pair. I am having to small Regals together now. They fight at first but now they are doing well together. Hope to have a pair.

It / they will be going in with a captive bred flame, captive bred coral beauty and a yellow eye kole tang. Plus several smaller fish and probably another tang or two down the road all being well

Edit: I should point out that none of my fish are in the 280g yet so I can stock in whatever order works best. I'm also hoping to get my hands on another CB flame before the time comes to move them over.

Wow a pair of regals would look awesome! How bad is the fighting? They would have to co-exist in a 20g QT for a couple of months whilst they grow so maybe I should just stick to the one if they will fight, or try the divider as Gareth suggested but they might be a bit cramped in a 2ft QT with a divider. I have been told that its better to get 2 of different sizes if trying to pair up but infortunately thats not an option with these captive bred ones

And my latest experiment with blueface, I started with a juvenile, added the adult to a 100 gallon rubbermaid tub. Since they got along I decided to move them to a new 180. "Sorry about the dirty glass" this tank sits in a quiet storage room away from everyone but me.

I did try pairing two captive bred Annularis angels once, got along great in the store, in QT for six weeks, but when I placed them in a 300 the one chased the other to death. So back to the store they went. Good luck, hopefully your store will take one back if it does not work out?

Thats quite a collection, love the little and large blueface pairing! Sorry to hear about the annularis, that is good to know though thanks I will just stick to one.

I actually just went and picked one up, its only around 1" and a really nice looking fish. They did have a captive bred chinese blue-lined angel (Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis) also, which was tiny but apparently quite feisty. I was tempted to buy it but I never impulse buy livestock and don't really know much about this species and whether it would be a peaceful inhabitant in my 280 and get along with the majestic.
