Here in Australia, captive bred mandarins come up infrequently.

One has just become available and I'm so tempted to pull the trigger. Only problem is my 90 gal (60 gal display) is only a month old. It's fully cycled and already gone through the diatom phase. Rock work is a mix of old live rock and still alive live rock. Refugium with live rock, oyster shells, and four species of macro algae. Much of the filter material and macroalgae was transferred from my nano which was over run with copepods and amphipods. I was looking at the sump last night and it's clear that the copepods have been transferred and are thriving (lots of the little guys moving on the water surface and glass. There are also a fair few amphipods in the display rock work though I think my two azure damsels will make short work of them.

Current stock list:
2 x Azure damsels (no aggression to each other or others)
2 x Black and white ocellaris clowns (no aggression to anyone)
1 x Yellow clown goby (has his spot and he sticks to it)

I'm told the mandarin was raised on micropellets and the online store maintains it wont be an issue to add it to a new setup because of this. I would realistically be able to feed twice to three times a day.

Too early or go for it?

If its true that they eat micro pellets. I would try it at long at other fish in the tank are not being bully

you can train your mandarin to eat pellets or frozen food in a QT and then move it to the main tank. use a coral feeder to spray food in its proximity and it will be able to find food. my mandarin eats brine shrimp and blood worms only if they are moving. if they land on the floor my mandarin goes blind towards them.

Does your Mandarin eats pellets?
