i was wondering how captive bred fish do compared to wild fish in a home aquarium

Generally speaking your captive bred will do much better in the home aquarium they will usually eat better and have less stress. Wild caught unfortunately most of the SW fish that you can find or want are going to be wild caught and do fair well in the home aquarium but alot of times it will be hard to get them started on prepared foods and minimizing the stress to the specimen.

There are also tank raised type fish. These are fish caught wild as juveniles or fry and raised in a tank environment. Again, these are more conditioned to tank life so usually fair better. I have found captive are very hardy and the wild are usually a bit more time consuming for adaptability and eating. Just make sure the source of the fish is ethical and done properly and you should have less issues.

The other thing to consider with wild caught is whether the fish have been conditioned by the vendor or if they are coming straight in and out. Fish will go a long time starving between collection and sale if not first conditioned by vendor somewhere in the train.

Thanks I know most fish want bred in captivity.

As @DeniseAndy stated ensure that the fish is being cultured in an ethical manner, and they are being acclimated properly by the vendor. I even go as far as communicating with my LFS on which vendor my fish come from. Alot of times I will arrange with my LFS to where they will keep it until its eating to minimize the stress on the fish once they are doing good I will then QT them in one of my systems.
