I think due to their slow growth rate it will probably be another year minimum, I doubt they’d hit markets in the next few weeks. I didn’t even know anyone had succeeded to CB these fish! Maybe we’ll start finding more success of Captive Breeding with the other hard/expert fish?

I sure hope that’s the case! I did read from a Chinese language source that Su (founder of Bali Aquarich) has already Bred F2 Regals. So far he’s only done the grey belly Indonesian version and not the yellow bellies though.
Which makes me curious: Are Indo / Philippines Regals inherently less hardy fish, or is it mainly down to the collection methods?

I think the yellow bellies are easier fish due to them not needing so many sponges/tunicates in their diet. I think it may be collection methods making them easier to breed, it must’ve been VERY nice to watch it happen and work though!

Out of curiosity does it say anywhere specifically whether it’s indeed the fact that grey bellies eat more sponges in their diet? And do you think it will make a difference either way (yellow or gray belly) if captive Bred?

I can’t find what I was reading about them a few months ago but I remember reading about how grey bellies tend to eat more spongodes than the yellows do, in terms of captive bred I think they’d be as easy as eachother actually, I think it would just be hard to get hold of one haha.I see.

Haha hopefully they will be produced in large numbers. Captive Bred Majestic Angels are now fairly widely available, maybe even in the UK (though I’m not sure), they were first Bred in 2015 by Bali Aquarich and they’re a slow growing species too.

You have confused a blue (regal) tang with a regal angelfish.This is a captive bred Regal Tang I got from Algae Barn almost 5 years ago. He eats like a pig and is the king of the tank.

Captive Bred Pygoplites diacanthus have arrived in Europe Wholesale (trade only). De Jong Marinelife have them in the nursery. Netherlands.

I totally agree, In my reef store I specialise in Captive Bred Marines and sometimes think they are maybe released onto the market little to early. Although I do understand the economic drivers that may be responsible for this. The ones at De Jong are at least being rested in their dedicated nursery facility.That is great news, Bali Aquarich's work is great, I thought they would be on sale months later, I hope they are obtained by aquarists who know what they are going to take care of
In my experience these very young animals require particular attention with regards husbandry.
Great to see them make it to market though.

Thank you very much Tony, to be honest, I have not followed the selection process very closely in the qualifying rounds, but I'm sure they will be in the World Cup, they do a good job when they are there but they always lack something else to be able to transcend.
