Captive Bred Yellow Tang vs Kole Tang

My LFS has some small CB yellow tangs coming in at $200 and I am not sure whether to go with a kole tang or a yellow tang.

Any opinions on kole tangs vs yellow tangs?

I have 72 gallon bowfront with a 33 gallon sump.

Two totally different tangs. I vote one of each Depending on other livestock tank should be large enough. Kole doesn't get very big and my yellows tend to not get huge either

I think it's really about your personal preference, but if your goal is to reduce algae, then I vote for Kole tang. If it's about visual appeal, then go with the Yellow.

Yellow being captive bred, raised, will be on the smaller side if that is important to you. Both are utilitarian by nature eating algae. Kole may scrape more on the rock work and glass vs the yellow picking.

This is a newer tank - about 6 weeks old. I had it cycled in 10 days and its been stable every since then. Currently I have a pair of clowns and a scooter blenny in it. I do not have any algae in it yet but just added live rock with coraline algae so I just started running lights on Saturday so it will come soon.

If I do both can I add them at separate times?

I have also seen/read a lot of issues with the CB yellow tangs - coloring not being near as good and HLLE issues? Another concern is getting them so small - will be around 1.25-1.5", I believe that would be small enough to go into the overflow?

If you go both I would put the yellow in first. The captive bred ones I've seen are very small so that would give it some time to grow before adding the kole. I have never seen a captive bred kole do if wild caught it would probably be considerably larger than the yellow.

Kole tangs are from Hawaii and aren't around anymore.

I would pick one of the Ctenochaetus genus tangs, any of the koles cousins besides Chevron.

I would wait a few months

I would not. You don't have the algae to support one. Tank is only 6 weeks old.
