I just lost my yellow tang today by accident. SOmeone did a water change for me and the tang got trapped in the rocks above the water line. My tank has a bunch of established tangs in the 4-5 inch sizes. What are the odds of a 2" captive bred YT making in my tank. Is the size difference a plus or minus?

I would say the size difference works in your favor since the others won't see it as a threat. I would recommend using an acclimation box where they can see it but can't get to it. Leave it in there until they no longer come over and act all big and tough. The downside with such a small tang is that they are a bit delicate and a little bit of bullying might be the end of the little guy.

Thats my concern as well. I do use sn acclimation box and whe I release the new fish I use the mirror trick to distract the ithers

Oooooo that's a tricky one. The size difference both works in your favor and against you to be honest.

It's Impossible to tell if your specific gang will accept the newcomer. What kind of tangs are established already?Heavily fed fish are less aggressive. How and when you introduce everyone could be the difference in success and failure. If you want another YT, go for it, But be ready to pull it if needed.

Things can turn quickly.

Yeah, it could work and it could be an issue. Hard to say without trying it. Sorry that’s not super helpful, but really depends on the tank situation and other inhabitants, and to some degree the personality of the fish themselves.

Pretty aggressive 125 with triggers , puffers , powder blue, purple, hippo, naso and Achilles. I do feed well

Tricky, it might help if u can trap the purple for a couple days for the yellow to get more established after release but typically thats easier said than done. Introduction box will help but not an absolute reassurance. Diming tank for a day or two might help if u see aggression post release. Good luck with it
