Hey everyone I have a single BRS reactor that is running carbon and I picked up some gfo to mix them and I used the calculator on there site to figure out the mix and I know your not saposto go over 50/50 and it calls for 1 cup of carbon and a 1 1/2 cups of gfo is anyone else running it like this and if so how do you mix them and I have a 75g tank

I would run them as 1 cup GAC and 1/2 cup GFO, and run the reactor in reverse flow to keep it from tumbling.

Schould I run them mixed or should I run it with the gfo in the bottom and the carbon on top

If you're going to run it in rerverse flow I would mix them. If you're going to run them separately in a single reactor, you should run it in forward flow, separate the media with sponges, provide enough flow for the GFO to lightly tumble at the top to keep it from solidifying. In both cases make sure you rinse the media. What GAC and GFO are you using?

Make sure you rinse them thoroughly, they have a good deal of fines/dust.

I think going try and run them separate that way I can change the carbon every 2 weeks and try to save the gfo so I'm not waisting it

How is this working out? I didn't know that you could run them separately in the same reactor. I also have a BRS reactor and would like to run GFO.

I'm running them mixed together and It seems to be working kinda hard to tell this early on

Yeah, I guess it will probably take a while. I'm currently using Phos Rx to lower my phosphates, but I think I would like to try GFO and see how well it will work for me.

If I have a phos issue I run them separately in a common reactor, otherwise I just run carbon as a polisher

Thank you! I'm thinking about trying to run them separately in the same reactor also.

you don't run them separately, you mix them together. And make sure you use the included sponges. Unlike having GFO by its self where you can let it tumble, you dont want to let the carbon tumble with the GFO as the GFO will turn the carbon into a much finer dust than what you put in to it. dont go any lower than a 50/50 mix and proper mix I have found is what I mentioned above.

It sounds like you can run it either way!
