Carbon Dosing Advice - No Reactor and No Dosing Pump?

Is it possible to carbon dose - using bio pellets or liquids - without a media reactor or dosing pump? My tank is only 5 gallons (Spec 5 nano-reef)

What's the goal of dosing an organic carbon source? In a tank this small, changing out 2.5 gallons of water instantly cuts nitrate and phosphate in half.

To be honest, I've just been reading so many forums and watching so many YouTube videos that I was checking out possible options for the future!
