So I think I killed my Goby. I started Carbon Dosing and of course it can deplete the oxygen in the tank. I have my skimmer going but I understand that the Diamond Goby can be especially susceptible to low oxygen. It was eating fine, taking whatever I put in the tank. I thought it was a little lethargic for a few days and then I just went to the movies and shut the skimmer off (it can go crazy and overflow on the floor if I’m not careful... it’s a HOB skimmer). Just found it upside down in the tank. Ugh. Thoughts?

In case anyone is wondering (it’s my build thread as well), the skimmer is a Bubble Magus E5 and I do have a drain hooked up to a bucket but when it goes nuts, it doesn’t drain fast enough.

Here are pics of the Goby. If this disturbs you, please don’t look.

Looking at the 3rd pic, I believe those are its gills. I don’t think they should be yellow, right?

The yellow tissue are the gill covers, the actual gills are inside those. When fish are alive, the gills should be red. Pink or white indicates anemia, but gills fade quickly after death.

Are there any other fish in the tank? How do they look?
Jay

The rest of the fish look good. That’s what is baffling me. I made a video and the quality is not that great (gotta figure out how get it uploaded in a better quality) but you should see that they look fine but maybe you see something I don’t. In the video, there’s also a skunk shrimp behind the rocks. You can see his antenna in the video.

Cleaner wrasse have fairly high oxygen demand, I would think a low level that would harm a goby would also have harmed the wrasse.

So yeah, I have no idea. My cleaner wrasse is all over the place hunting for things with no signs of slowing down.
