after having started dosin NoPox, I have a lot of white dusty particulate matter floating in surface of DT. Is this resulting from carbon dosing and what can I do to reduce or get rid of this?

I think it’s from carbon dosing as wasn’t a problem before. Is it the bacterial community now growing and dying off then floating to surface to be skinned off?

I have a AquaExcel e15 skinner rates for 130 gallons and I have a 75 gallon DT with 30 gallon sump and lots of love rock do estimate 70 gallon total. Skimmer is working well and created 1/2 cup of skim mate a day that is dark and foam has flecks of dark stuff. Only problem is in blowing top off with the foam.

The overflow box is eshop brand with single U tube. 20+ years old so not sure which or rating. Surface particulate seems to have problem getting sucked out through teeth which may not be doing enough. 11 teeth. Should I try to cut more or widen existing or maybe replace with a larger GPH model?

Thanks for any insight.

I have the same issue after carbon doing vinegar/vodka/red sea NoxPox
If you over dose
Also white film on the glass, skimmer, pump.

I have started reducing my dosing levels recently as I was able to bring NO3 down from off the charts to <10. I was running FOWLR but trying to get to mixed reef capable tank. I was at 9 mL for the 75 gallons and have reduced back to 6 mL as few days ago to see if I can maintain there or keep reducing.

So if this is result of overdosing and over growing bacteria which are dying off en masse, I should be able to expect a reduction in white film on glass and on surface of DT as things level out? That would be great and not require modifications or enlargement of HOB overflow box.

Thanks for the feedback. I will continue reducing and monitoring NO3 levels to see what affect this has on the extra particulates.

Decrease dosing will help, but the old white film will not goes away,You needed to clean the pump/overflow box, skimmer manually.
