Carbon/GFO dual chamber vs. two single chamber units

I'd run GFO and carbon in separator reactors. One media can exhaust faster than the other and could be messy, to change in their stacked (one) reactor.

GFO is really meant to tumble (inside a reactor) to reach it's full benefit and carbon needs be packed tight.

Carbon is softer than GFO, and if it tumbles, it could crumble.
Fine (crumbled) carbon particles, (floating in the water column) has been known to lead to HLLE in tangs.

Plus as you mentioned, you can dial in each media's flow, if they were in separate reactors.

Thank you.

I agree and have 2 separate reactors. I also run a 3rd with both. The media is in bags made from old nylon filter socks. This one I change out more often because its easy and holds less of both media.

Should chemi pure be packed tight or should it tumble?
