I have a 36g bowfront and was wounding if I have been adding to much carbon to to hob filter. I have about a little under a half of a carbon bag filled and put in there is that way to much

I don't believe you can use too much carbon. However, it is better to consistently use a small amount than to put a lot into your tank at once (it can also get expensive $$). My guess is that half a cup would be sufficient for your tank.

I have had 2 bad experiences with adding too much carbon that it stripped the water very quickly and I lost several sps corals..They bleached out in 3 days! I did not loose any lps but they did not look great for a week or so...
I will never put carbon near my intake of pump or in filter sock as well as that was the only time I have lost any coral..
