how often should you change out carbon?

i was told 4 to 6 weeks but i just want to double check

depands on the type of carbon. most active carbons every 4 to 6 weeks is good, but some carbons like chemi pure you do it every 6 months or so. chemi pure and a couple other ones will tell you on the lable.

I run my carbon for a couple days and then leave it off untill needed again

I change mine every month. There are many that only run carbon for 1 week out of the month. I keep it changed, helps get the maximum light penetration.
