essentially ... you’re adding carbon which could be nopox , vinegar , vodka , sugar .

its meant to Increase bacteria which absorbs excess nutrients to be mechanically removed via skimmer .

I run it in reactor 24-7 forever, changed semi monthly.
Some have said it may cause HLLE.
I’ve experienced no affects at all.

As long as you avoid lignite and don't let it tumble or grind, it will actually help the tank in most cases.
