Many would argue that it needs to be used for limited time periods or otherwise it would deplete certain elements which would then be missing in your system, however I proved them wrong.

I've been using it for 15 years 24/7, from my very first nano based on WC only up to my latest 206g system were I dose baling and traces daily, and I never been limited by the types of coral I can keep and grow, from simple softies to high end Acros and Chalices.

Carbon is mostly used to polish the water and make it clearer, but also great for pulling toxins when fragging (especially when cutting softies).

I prefer using carbon for only 2 months as I love water little dirty. You can try this I have lots of sponges. If u like clean water then u can run it for full year.

I have tons of sponges growing pretty much everywhere, to the point I'm pulling them off regularly.
Carolina growing well too, though in my current tank I scrape it off the glass weekly.
