I had a nem die and send my amoneia level thru the roof. I've done several water changes and it's still high, I was told tonight to use carbon but I don't have a reactor. I was gonna use a old canister filter but it has quit working. my question is could i take a filter media bag and put carbon in it and place it in one of the fw hang on filters instead of the filter cartage and it do the same thing? As long as water flow is getting thru the carbon it would work right?

that will work.u can put the bag inside the filter sock too.as long as it in a high flow area it will be fine.When ever i have ammonia from something that die,i put either prime or amquel in to nuetralized it

I run carbon and GFO in a phosban 150 reactor. Works great! But the media bag will work, just not as much filtration and flow through it.
