Im using marin pro reef salt which is giving me exactly the parameters it list on the bucket. 7 dkh 450 calcium 1350 mag and ph is 8.3. I want to raise alk to 8.5 but nothing else. Which should I use only to reach the goal ? and then its subject to change for regular dosing of course.

Carbonate has a greater effect on raising pH. Bicarbonate doesn't have the same degree of effect on pH (somehow it slightly increases it in the long run as Randy told me once). Other than that, they will both raise the alk. Randy Holmes Farley has some great articles on alk.

Thank you.
