Carbondose Leak - Teflon Seal

I've been using a carbon doser for my calcium reactor successfully for 6 months. The CO2 tank finally emptied, so I'm attaching a new one. For some reason I cannot get a good seal between the tank threads and carbon doser. The carbon doser uses a perma-seal and the instructions say don't use a teflon seal. I have re-tightened several times.

Can I remove the perma-seal and use a standard teflon seal? Can I leave the perma-seal and also use a teflon seal?

I would advise against it. The gas is under greater pressure than say the water pressure from your supply line to the sink. Also co2 is smaller than h20. The dangers of the co2 leaking is too high. I dont use a calcium reactor but do use co2 injection for my planted tank. I actually rent the tanks from a liqueur store, pay the $30 deposit once and switch tanks empty for new each time. It Lets someone else deal with the maintenance and replacement of them lol.

This a standard twenty pound tank? I don't have that regulator but I work in the beverage industry so I can possibly help.

Generally you'll find an oring on the regulator or hose you're attaching to to the tank that makes the seal. The threads are just for tightening that down. These orings can rub away or even fall out on occasion. Check that first. If it seems like there's an issue with the oring you can either replace it or buy some nylon washers that go between the two fittings. Just search for "co2 tank washers" on amazon or whatever and you'll see them. They're used all the time because the original orings get beat up pretty easily.

I would advise against using teflon. The area on the inside of the nut will still leak ever if you seal with teflon. As i said the threads don't actually seal anything. Besides, the pressure at that fitting is around 800+ psi and its not really worth messing around with.
