so my male cardinal is holding babies i realized today. i think they are about ready to come out. i can see them poking their little faces out his mouth. i tried catching him to put him in the fish breeder thing so the babies would be realeased into there but i cant seem to catch him. just too much dang rockwork. i guess the other fish will probably eat them when he realeases them wont they? anyone have any experience with this??? thanks

The other fish will most likely eat them, I have very little experience with breeding cardinals, and by cardinals I am assuming you mean Banggai? With clownfish mine breeding pair always laid eggs in a pot and I never had problems with the tank mates eating them, but probably because the tank mates were seahorses. I would not suggest chasing the male around with a net as it will cause severe stress on the fish and he will most likely lay the eggs prematurely. On RC I recall seeing several threads about how people were able to catch the male without causing too much stress and were able to raise the larvae. If you are interested in raising them, I would recommend you do research on raising and caring for the young.

Good luck with what you decide to do,

well i did already try to catch the male. i didnt do it all hastefully and chase him. i was using a black net and trying to move him to one side. but there are just too many holes and caves to get to him. maybe i will get lucky and he will find somewhere to put the babies. (they are already babies and not eggs) i think he will be letting them go before long.

well i would love too. but i dont know if they are going to make it once he spits them out. if he spits them out in the tank do you think i can catch any of the babies??? if they dont get gobbled up first??? i know in the wild i guess the male will put them in the spines of an urchin for protection, but i dont have one of those. all i have in my tank with real possible hidding area is a lettuce spong, fancy sponge, red grape algae, i dont think i have anywhere else for them to hide... except holes maybe
