Cardinal fish got cloudy eye....help

Cloudy eye is usually related to poor water quality. The start of a bacterial infection. Sometimes though it's just because they accidentally scraped it on a rock or something. I would do a water quality test first and see what's up. Check, ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, PH. Let me know those numbers and we can go from there.

If the cloudy eye is only present in one eye there is a good chance it was caused by a mechanical injury (infections or wq related eye issues usually present themselves in both eyes). For now I would make sure the fish stays calm keep an eye on it. No pun intended!

I’ve got the same issue going on. I’ve got two Banggai cardinalfish in my tank all of a sudden one is darker in color and in top corner of tank won’t leave area and other has one cloudy eye. Read online I should remove the cowering one anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Often, one cloudy eye is simply due to an injury, but two cloudy eyes can indicate a systemic infection. In addition, cloudiness combined with exophthalmos, popeye can be something else altogether. Posting a picture might help us identify the cause, or at least rule out some causes.

Thanks Jay. So weird but it’s gone away. Also the one of the two that was cowering in upper right corner of tank is now back next to other cardinalfish. Weird.
