I have had two batches of fish with Marine Velvet, (purchased at different LFS's). The first batch was as follows:

1 Coral Beauty
2 Bangaii Cardinals
2 Ocellaris Clownfish

The second batch was:

1 Purple Tang
1 Powder Blue Tang
2 PJ Cardinals

Both times the other fish showed signs of Marine Velvet and the Bangaii and PJ Cardinals had no signs or symptoms whatsoever. Are these fish just super hardy or do parasites not like them or are they immune for some reason?

All fish can get parasites. Cardinals are hardy and sometimes you may not see any external signs of parasites. But they can still carry them. Kinda like wrasses.
The other fish you mentioned, especially tangs, have external signs of parasites because they are less hardy and have a thinner slime coat.
If you need any help treating them. We are here to help.

Good Luck and Happy Reefing

I can easily see where someone might think so... Cardinals, especially PJ and Orbic, are very hearty fishes. I had an Orbic that lived through my initial floundering with saltwater, multiple tank upgrades, many aborted trials of new and different tools and techniques, etc. My kids called him the 'ugly fish'. Had him for nearly 10 years, and he went with a tank I sold.

I've got a school of 4 mature PJ's in my current reef. LFS guy had someone trade then in, sold 'em to me for $20... for the school!

Great fishes to have in a reef!

I'd never heard of the Orbic, so I had to Google them. Very cool looking fish. Kind of like the PJ without color, but with some cool looking spiked fins, I may have to have some now.
