Saw this fish on our second dive of the day and I can't for the life of me identify him. Coloration is almost like a Rock Beauty but it's definitely not an angel. Head is shaped more like a soapfish. A couple of stills and a short video....any ideas? I'm thinking it's a juvie what ever species it is?

You can see a "false eye" consisting of a black band outlined in electric blue.

And a short video.

Shy hamlet, Hypoplectrus guttavarius. I recognized that it was a hamlet and used Reef Fish ID by Humann and Deloach for the species ID. If you dive much in the Caribbean their books are essential but most good dive shots have a copy for customers to use as a reference.

That's it! Thank you. I've seen indigo, blue and even barred hamlets before but never this species.
