Yes, I've seen both fish. They're local to me and I see them often when I go snorkeling. As a matter of fact, just Friday I saw a small school of the tangs and a few single wrasses.

I have a similar tang but it has few more markings and little bit of blue ....tenneti tang. AKA lieutenant tang or vampire tang

I do not think that the wrasse is reef safe it is not a saddle wrasse but something close like that.

I have seen those a lot in Ocean and enquired about them in times past.

I don't know why I don't think they are reef safe but that was my memory.

+1 to Mr coffee. At best it will eat newly molted inverts, suck out small hermits, and do the same to snails. I believe that is a Thalossoma sp. wrasses and they get fairly large. Its a slightly less reef safe genera than Halichoeres and there are quite a few in that genera that arent reef safe at all.

IMO reef safe really hinges on being able to keep a few snails, hermits, and shrimps around.

Just looks like a regional variation of blue headed wrasse. Thalasomas are reef safe with caution meaning no clams or inverts. I had a sunset wrasse who didn't care about snails but when I put my clam in to see what would happen he dove at it like a starved man seeing all you can eat buffet
