Starting up a new tank. I kind of wanted to set my rock, put down my sand, fill tank with RODI, than mix salt in tank.

Is this ok to do with the ARAG-ALIVE sand? Keep in mind I need to produce 300 gallons so it will take a few days.

I faced a similar challenge. I mixed my water in the empty tank/sump first and performed final leak checks. (I also had to partially empty and refill to shim the tank stand to level.)
Then I set the rocks in place to ensure they were solidly resting on the tank bottom. Finally, I added the live sand. The cloudiness cleared up after a day.
The rock and sand displaced some water but now I had an accurate measure.

I take it you want to set your rock first, before getting the tank wet? I'd place your rockwork carefully, then add water/salt, then place sand if you really want to do your aquascape without water. If you do, be very careful that your rocks don't shift or drop, or you'll be buying a new tank

I've always done water/salt, then rocks, then sand myself. That said, there is no wrong way, just ones a little more risky :D

Yeah I would like to do as much as possible with the tank dry. I have an acrylic tank so breakage isn't as big as a concern.

I was more worried about the plain RODI water killing and "bacteria" on the live sand before I can get the salt mixed.

Seems like a lot of folks add sand after water so maybe it won't be as big of a mess as I anticipated.

Yup, do your scaping, then add water/salt, then sand. You'll be good to go.

Do you have a build thread going?
